چکیده

Learning is basically a social process. Experiences with Computer Supported Learning (CAL) over the last thirty years have shown that technology cannot substitute for some of the essential elements of this process, e.g. personal communication, face-toface collaboration, positive and negative reinforcement through fellow students, etc. Today, with local and wide area networks becoming a reality, there seems to be a chance to simulate some elements of this learning process by a suitable combination of synchronous and asynchronous collaboration techniques. In particular, this paper proposes ways of supporting this interaction within a consistent, representation-independent complex object model. To map the model onto affordable technologies we borrow structures and methods from both database research and current multi-media course development. The arguments for the suitability of our approach, keeping in mind that distance learning remains a necessity in many circumstances, are supported with a number of examples. 1. Scaffolding group learning in a collaborative networked environment

Scaffolding students in a collaborative networked learning environment requires different instructional methods than in a traditional home or classroom setting. The goal of this research is to understand computer-mediated collaboration in an instructional setting in order to create an effective computer-mediated collaboration tool. We identify ways to support collaboration by examining the inte...

Networked Academic Societies in Collaborative Development of e-Learning Courses

In this paper, we describe a framework for supporting Networked Academic Societies towards the collaborative development of e-Learning courses. Academics with common interests in teaching could combine their knowledge into the development of integrated e-Learning courses. This is a hard task, since the communication overhead is rather big to be ignored by busy academics, unless there are specif...

A Reference Architecture for Automation of Inter-Organizational Process-Oriented Collaboration

In today’s competitive, dynamic, and changing business environment, being able to collaborate globally within and beyond the enterprise borders is critical. Inter-Organizational Collaborations (IOCs) have been proposed as a response to the characteristics of highly competitive global business environments. So far, a number of reference models, frameworks, and ad hoc architectures related to som...
